About this worksheet
Each worksheet has 20 problems choosing whether a multiplication expression is greater than, less than or equal to another value.
This worksheet asks children which sign makes each statement true - greater than, less than or equal to - using multiplication expressions only. The value has to be worked out before any comparison can be made, so this is a step beyond comparing two plain numbers. The sign is chosen before the numbers are built, so equals appears as often as the other two rather than almost never. Sheets can be customized, turned into flash cards, or assigned for online learning.
Student objectives
- Work out the value of a multiplication expression before comparing it.
- Choose the sign that makes a statement true.
- Recognize when two expressions have the same value.
Everyday practice
- Compare two totals worked out in different ways.
- Say which of two expressions is larger before calculating exactly.
- Check whether two different multiplication expressions come to the same amount.
