Today I tried the online assignment option for the spelling worksheets. It works well on the computer but then I tried to use it on a mobile device (tablet & cellphone) and it has a little glitch. While on the mobile device, when the input method for typing letters/words is touched, it does not open the keyboard to type, keeping us from completing a worksheet.
Just thought I'd share that unless it's not meant to be mobile-friendly.
Thank you for your site and really appreciate the ease of use!!
I think I finally figured it out.
Can you give it a shot now?
I'm not seeing any infinite loops in my error logs, but that doesn't mean anything. :D
Could I get a bit more info on this? Was this happening on all the fraction sheets or is it just a specific one?
I've added some debug options to help figure out what is going on.
Can you go to this link:
https://commoncoresheets.com/spelling-worksheet-creator?id=624935&debug=1
And just try and save it, and then let me know what it is saying in the box after you save.
What you're describing sounds like it may be displaying stuff it shouldn't. By default when you click the save button it should pop open a box with just 1 save option, not the update option.
:/
Could you hold 'ctrl' and hit 'r' when on that page and let me know if that changes anything?
Yep, no problem. Just don't try to sell them or charge for access.
That's no good. :/
I do see 1 list you made on the 8th with the id: 624935
Was there other lists that you made since then?
1. If there are fewer than 5 words it will not save.
2. I've heard from a few folks that their schools blocked javascript. Since the site uses javascript to save, that may be the issue. Could you try it on a different non-home computer?
The fact that nothing happens makes me lean toward a javascript blocking issue.
It looks like you have a student who has input their last name as "Beeeeeeeee..." which is causing all the score information to be pushed off the page. I have adjusted the code to make sure the score is displayed even with long names. :)

I assume you're talking about the numeric to expanded notation, huh? Looking at those, yeah those are pretty terrible for what it is looking for. I went ahead and adjusted them so they are more clear what needs to go where.
Actually I should really add a 'help' option to all the OATs so it's more clear what needs to be done...
Thanks a lot, you just made a ton of work for me. :D
Part of my philosophy is anytime I fix something, I like to break something else. :D
In this case that was a mistake on my part. They should be working again. If you notice anything else not working right, don't hesitate to let me know.
Thanks for the heads up. The title links are auto generated and it looks like the redirector didn't know what to do with the ½ in the title. :/
I've updated the code though so they should be good to go now. :)
Could I get a bit more info? Was this on the actual worksheets themselves or on the create-a-review/test/flash or spelling or another section?
I'm not seeing it in your account (in fact the last one I see from your account was an assignment made back in Apr 22, 2021). But fear not, nothing is ever gone.
Could you go to this link:
Link
And see if there is a 'merge' option? If so, when you click on that it will add those to your account. If not though any information you can give me at all to help find the assignment (student names, etc) would make the search a lot easier. :)
Thank you,
Laurie Griffin
Thanks for the heads up. It looks like there was a number mismatch in the database and a flag was turned off for the modified. A good ole fashion 'two-fer'. :D
It should be working properly now. Thanks for taking the time to let me know.
I enjoy using your site. I have a question. My math partner and I usually take turns creating assignments. However, how do I share it with her so that her students scores will not come to me, but to he when I send her the link.
Not... currently. :D
Originally when I set up the teacher student system it was all designed with a simple, 1 teacher per classes, multiple students per class (the way it was when I was teaching).
I have been doing some experiments to get it working a bit more dynamically, but it is taking a bit longer than expected with all the other behind the scenes stuff I'm working on. But it will come... eventually. :P
It should be inputting the correct number. :/
Could you shoot me your list so I can take a look?
It seems to be working on my side. :/
I did have a bug that got fixed last night with the redirects so that may have been the issue.
Can you check it now and see if it is still not working?
Could I get a bit more info? Was this on a specific section? And is it giving an error or is it just a blank page?
Not currently. I am working on a solution, but most options I try end end up breaking existing student's scores, so it's a bit of a slow process. :/
It looks like you have 2 spelling assignments, both created on the same day. One of them has 0 students doing it and the other shows 13 students working on it. Are you maybe looking at the wrong assignment?
With the incorrect status on the 4 times each, it looks like on of your words is "could. " which means they would have to input it EXACTLY as written with the period and blank space at the end. It looks like the space on the end is what is throwing the students off.
I went ahead and updated the assignment generation code to automatically remove extra spaces at the start and end of a word so it shouldn't be an issue in the future.

Starting just today every link I copy into google classroom shows up as "page not found"

If you click the menu next to 'words' on the page there is an option to paste a list and the words will be seperated by the way you choose.
The fact you didn't see it, says I should make it more obviously a button, huh? :P

Thanks for the heads up. They should be back up and running now. For some reason that file that housed them was saved with extra data when it should have been impossible. :/
I'll go ahead and write some code to make sure no other sheets have this issue.
Thanks for the feedback. I've update the UI to better reflect the difference between the create-a-review and create-a-test. Let me know how it looks now or if you have any suggestions. :)
Thanks for letting me know. My efforts to allow flexibility came back to bite me. :(
I've updated the code though so it should be working properly now. :)
You can still access the old version here:
v5.commoncoresheets.com
or
v6.commoncoresheets.com
Just for my own curiosity though, what about the new version did you not care for? I'm always looking to improve things.
I'm able to see them on my side, so that's weird. :(
Could you go to this link: Link. And let me know if you see them there?
With the saved sheets, it sounds like you may be looking at the 'favorites'. I've updated the way the sheets are categorized and I've split the 'favorited sheets' and 'sheets you created' into 2 separate
categories. I went ahead and added the 'sheets I've made' into the menu so it should be a lot easier to find. :)
https://www.commoncoresheets.com/my-account
The first menu option (red) should be to merge the assignments created without an account, to the currently logged in account. If not though, please let me know.

https://www.commoncoresheets.com/distance-learning?id=972667-31qc
Thanks for the heads up. Those were supposed to be social studies, but when I did a recent site update they were incorrectly categorized as math. I've updated the database so they're in the correct category now. :)
But no, for the most part the rest of the site should be good. Everything else runs through a different process, while the main news page is hard coded through my code editor. I went ahead and ran the news page through a fixer to make sure it is good though. A process I'll repeat in the future.
:)
himPDF error: Some data has already been output to browser, can't send PDF file
Any solution yet?
Thanks for the heads up. It looks like when I did a recent minor bug fix, I managed to introduce a major bug. But it should be back up and running now with both issues addressed. Thanks for taking the time to let me know.
I am getting a message of:
"himPDF error: Some data has already been output to browser, can't send PDF file"
Any idea on how to fix it!??

No worries, it should be an easy process to relink it. When you go to this page:
https://www.commoncoresheets.com/my-account
Do you see a 'warning' text? If so, click on that and you should be good to go. If not though, let me know.

I can't seem to find that concept this year.
Thank you!
Yep the old site is still around at v5.commoncoresheets.com or v6.commoncoresheets.com depending on which old version you mean. :P
But if you could give me a bit of info about what you don't like I'm always looking for things to improve.
Currently the only way to print the grade book by printing the page (ctrl+p), but I am working on a few different print options. :)
just a small mistake no big deal thought
great site by the way
I am a child who is a 6th grader and i have been doing this since i was 8 or a 4th grader
p.s no offense it is hard and annoying because my parents make me do it all the time and it hard
bye
😁
Thanks for the heads up. I will fix it soon. :P I am glad this website has help you.

That's no good. :/
Could I get a bit more info on the error? Also is this happening on every sheet or just a specific one?
Thanks for the heads up. I've fixed the bug, but while I was in there I also decided to go ahead and rewrite the entire algorithm for finding the letters. So it should be a lot better now with a much more even split of words. :)
Most likely it's an error on my side. :/
Could you point me to the sheet you were trying to generate?
The old site is still available here:
v6.commoncoresheets.com
Was there a specific section you were referencing though? Everything should be running a lot quicker. :/
I've added a 'mass update' option on that page so you can get rid of them all in one fell swoop. :)
Fair warning though, that list may populate again if you don't have any classes set up and you use distance learning.
Thanks for the heads up. I've fixed the link so it should be working now. :)
There are no alternate generating for the definitions. It would be nice to have that list back on the drop down menu so you can pick one and don't have to keep hitting the button.
Thank you for making updates to improve the site. I use this site so much!
Thanks for the heads up.
I've fixed the font size and the list of words so they should be displayed correctly.
Regarding the alternate definitions, my initial approach was to combine entries from a definition database with public submissions. This method generally produced satisfactory results, but occasionally led to less accurate definitions, such as:
Shirt: what you are wearing.
I have since transitioned to AI-generated definitions, calibrated to a specific grade level. As a result, while the current number of definitions may be fewer, they are designed to be more precise. I'm essentially starting anew, which explains the limited entries in the database at this moment.
I hate to say 'wait and see' but give it about a month and the database should be a lot larger.
In any case, it looks like it was an issue with the word length, it had a hard set maximum limit of 26 characters and you had a word that was 29. So it had no clue what to do and just died.
But I have recoded it and also did a bit of an update on the UI so it should work a lot better with long or short words.
If you notice anything else, don't hesitate to let me know.
No worries the old site is still around at: v5.commoncoresheets.com
Out of curiosity though what was it about the new test generator that you didn't like? I tested it with a bunch of folks and it was unanimously preferred. Even by me... and I hate change. :D
Thanks for the heads up. It looks like it was an issue with the way the number of problems was calculated for the 'wrong spelling' sheets. I've updated the code so it should be working now.
This link and other links do not open for all students. Some can work on it and for some it does not let them write.
When you say it is not opening for all student could I get a bit more info? Is it kicking back any error when it doesn't open or is it just not loading the page at all?
The flash card option is not populating. I love this feature and need them for my math stations this week. Will you please let me know when they will be ready?
Thanks!
Do you remember which options you had set?

It seems to be working on my side. :/
Was this for the worksheet itself or the distance learning?
Looks like I left some testing code, so it was overwriting the default names. Oops.
It should be displaying properly now.
With the grades, it should be showing all of them. :/
Could you give me a bit more info on which ones it is missing?
On the worksheets themselves there should be an option to change the language to spanish.
For the distance learning / one-atta-time if you click the menu in the top left and select 'language' it will give you an option to translate the problem into spanish.
Sorry I had to roll back the site temporarily. I've updated it... again and it should be working properly now. If you notice anything not working right though, please let me know.
You should be able to just click the heart icon and it will unfavorite the sheet. :)
Also the division bars should also be working. :)
I've updated the code though so it shouldn't happen again.
I've updated the code on the grade book so it should only be displaying active students. Thanks for the heads up.
Yep, if you click on the 'mass update' button it should allow you a few different ways to set the assignments to 'deleted'.
I went into the "timeline" folder to print more of them off as my kids LOVE them and today they look different. The timelines have no questions anymore. What happened to the timelines with the questions? Thanks for your help.
Could you take a look now? I've updated the code on those sheets and they should be working properly.
I also fixed the search so it should be working, but I believe that sheet is this one here:
https://commoncoresheets.com/subtracting-with-regrouping/873/download
Yep, if you go to 'My Classes' on the menu under 'teacher panel' you can set up as many classes as you want.
To view the assignments, if you click on 'distance learning assignments' you can view a link (it will start with 'cocosheets.com'). If they visit that link they will be able to access the assignment.
Yep, I have a patreon or a paypal.
:)
