About this worksheet
Each worksheet has 10 problems choosing the best estimate for how much a container holds in fluid ounces, cups, quarts or gallons.
The site estimates capacity in metric only - millilitres and litres. This standard names customary and metric together, and the customary half had no worksheet. The customary capacity ladder is harder to write for than weight because it steps by eight and then by two: a quart is two pints is four cups, so a container in the middle has three equally natural names and asking which unit is best has no defensible answer there. This sheet therefore asks for the best estimate with the choices far apart, never for the best unit, and every container sits at a size where one unit is plainly the natural one. Sheets can be customized, turned into flash cards, or assigned for online learning.
