About this worksheet
Each worksheet has 6 problems drawing a figure after one slide, flip or turn.
The three worksheets on this site that ask a student to carry out a transformation all work on a coordinate plane, which this standard rules out. Drawing it without a grid is a different task: there are no squares to count, so the shape has to be pictured. The dashed line is drawn for a left to right flip and the geometry is exact - the two boxes sit symmetrically about it, so the figure drawn flipped inside the second box really is its reflection across that line. Turns get no guide, because the centre of a turn is inside the figure rather than between the boxes. The answer is the drawing, so there is no answer column. Sheets can be downloaded as a PDF.
Student objectives
- Draw a figure after a flip over a given line.
- Draw a figure after a quarter or half turn.
- Keep the size and shape unchanged while the position changes.
Everyday practice
- Trace a shape and fold the paper to check a flip.
- Turn a drawing a quarter turn and compare.
- Say what stays the same when a figure moves.
