About this worksheet
Each worksheet has 6 problems completing a table from a rule with two operations.
The site turns rules into tables at grades 3 and 4 with a single operation - function machines and pattern rules. This standard says no more than TWO operations, and y = 3x + 4 is a different task from y = 3x because the student has to hold an order of operations while filling every row. The x values are deliberately not consecutive: a table counting up by one can be completed by continuing the outputs without ever applying the rule. Sheets can be customized, turned into flash cards, or assigned for online learning.
Student objectives
- Apply a two-operation rule to an input.
- Complete every row of a table.
- Keep the order of operations while filling a table.
Everyday practice
- Apply a rule like 3x + 4 to several numbers.
- Say which operation comes first.
- Check a table row by re-applying the rule.
