About this worksheet

Each worksheet has 12 problems choosing a reasonable temperature in degrees Fahrenheit or degrees Celsius.

This worksheet asks which of four temperatures is most reasonable for an everyday situation, alternating between degrees Fahrenheit and degrees Celsius so the number has to be read against the scale it is written in - 30 degrees is warm in one and freezing in the other. Every temperature on the page is above zero, which is what the standard asks for and also keeps the question honest, since a negative choice could be ruled out without knowing anything about the situation. Sheets can be customized, turned into flash cards, or assigned for online learning.

Student objectives

  • Choose a reasonable temperature for an everyday situation.
  • Read a temperature against the scale it is written in.
  • Compare Fahrenheit and Celsius values for the same situation.

Everyday practice

  • Guess the temperature outside, then check it.
  • Say what 30 degrees means in each scale.
  • Estimate how hot bath water or a mug of tea is.
