September 21, 2026 - Spelling: Three New Activities and Every Sentence Rewritten

Hey everyone,

Spelling got a big update. Three new activities, and pretty much everything the spelling creator writes for you has been redone from scratch.

Three New Activities



That's 27 spelling activities now (with 3 more coming after a few more weeks of testing).
Make It Plural - write the plural of each word. Apple becomes apples, strawberry becomes strawberries, and it knows person becomes people.
Prefixes and Suffixes - add the prefix or suffix and write the new word, spelling changes and all. Un + happy is unhappy, make + ing is making. You can do prefixes only, suffixes only, or a mix.
Translate - select the translation of each spelling word, in Spanish, French, German, Italian, Russian or Vietnamese.
Plurals and prefixes/suffixes can also be done as multiple choice, and all three work online as well as printed.



Every Sentence, Clue and Definition, Rewritten , auto generated
When you select the fill in the blank, crossword puzzle, or matching definition activites, the creator now auto fills in the blanks, a clue for the crossword and a definition for the matching. And all of the fill in the blanks, definitions, and crossword clues have been redone.
The reason for the auto complete is, I looked at the data for nearly 47,000 spelling lists that had been made since the auto generator was put in place. Basically everyone clicked it, so now it'll just do that step for you. :D


Words With More Than One Meaning
Words like lead, web or present mean different things. Before, you got whichever one it happened to pick. Now each meaning has its own sentence, clue and definition, and you choose. Click the little arrow next to the sentence and every meaning is listed, the most common ones at the top. Lead as in taking the lead, the lead in a pencil, a dog's lead, and so on.
Don't like any of them? Hover over one and click the refresh icon to have it write a different one for that same meaning.



Written For the Grade
The sentences are written for whatever grade you pick. It turns out 5th through 8th grade were all getting sentences meant for 7 to 10 year olds. They're written for the right age now.
Every meaning was also checked to make sure it's appropriate for kids before anything was written for it.
You might notice the Topic option is gone from the generation settings. It was behind a lot of the odd sentences, so it's out and honestly very few folks used it, just sticking with the default.



Auto Sorting Activities
I've set it up so it will save the latest activities you've done and throw them at the top of the activity list. So if you just do the same 5 activities every week you can easily click them without having to hunt around through 27 activities.
Also just because it's a fun fact, the most used activities are: find the correct spelling and writing four times (appearing in almost half of all activities created). The least used? Writing a paragraph, appearing in only 2% of activities.


More options
If you click the gear next to the 'Input your words' it'll give a few more options for a spell check and a word suggestion list as you type.
